Races¶
Race in the cosmology is architectural, not biological. Angels, demons, and humans are not species — they are installed states of the same underlying mechanism. Positions within Michael's engineering, not permanent categories. The player carries all three as a tribrid — and every act of love toward any race is personal (God carries that race inside them), every act of destruction is self-destruction (God is destroying part of what they are).
Angels and demons are the same coin. Same nature, same potential, same capacity. The difference between them is circumstance — where Michael placed them, what emotional state he was in when he built their environment, and how long they had to develop. Given equal time and equal emotional environment, any demon could match any angel. The hierarchy is manufactured, not inherent.
Humans are a different coin. Created last. Created out of guilt. The mediators — designed to bridge the gap between angels and demons. But Michael didn't understand what he was building. Humans start at faith — the lowest level of the unified system — and have no ceiling above them. The being with the least power has the most room to grow. The uncapped race.
The tribrid — God — carries all three natures simultaneously. Human faith, angel structure, demon analysis. Three modes of understanding in one being. The first existence that holds every position in the architecture at once.
The Three Expressions¶
| Race | Created From | Unified System Tier | Ceiling | Environment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Angels | Loneliness, then love | Magic — structured belief | Capped — same coin as demons | Heaven — love architecture |
| Demons | Functional need, then guilt | Technology — understanding the mechanism | Capped — same coin as angels | Hell — grief architecture |
| Humans | Guilt about the demons | Faith — raw belief, intuition | Uncapped — different coin entirely | Earth — the outer shell |
| Hybrids | The merge, or pre-merge boundary crossings | Mixed — depends on combination | Depends on human element | The margins — between factions, between categories |
Race as Emotional Architecture¶
Michael's engineering carries the builder's emotional state. The tools exceed the blueprint because the builder's feelings leak into the construction.
Angels are beautiful because Michael built them during love — the golden age, the family, Samael's warmth. They carry the emotional signature of joy.
Demons are monstrous because Michael built them during panic, grief, and self-hatred — the worst moment of his existence. They carry the emotional signature of anguish. The scarring, the corruption — those aren't sin's punishment. They're the builder's emotional state written onto the beings he created while breaking.
Humans were created during guilt — Michael seeing the demons suffer in the cage he built. Humans carry the emotional signature of attempted repair. The mediator race, built to fix a problem the architect caused.

Same engineer. Same tools. Different emotional state. Different output. A potter working in joy makes beautiful pots. The same potter working in anguish makes twisted ones. Same clay. Same hands.
The Installed Repulsion¶
Michael installed architectural repulsion between races. Angels sense demons and recoil. Demons sense angels and recoil. The reaction is physical, not ideological — it operates below conscious thought, in the architecture of the beings themselves.
The repulsion serves containment. It keeps the races separate. It prevents the kind of cross-racial bonding that would threaten the fiction's categorical framework. It's the same engineering instinct that built Heaven as a cage — separation as control.
Hybrids inherit the repulsion. Two natures in tension inside one being. The Woven hold both. The Halved suppress one. The Unchosen are torn apart by it. The tribrid carries three — and the human nature mediates, the way Michael designed humans to mediate. The design works. Not as Michael intended — but the mediating function is real.
